Amenities

The Reiff House is historically significant, precisely restored and furnished, and conveniently situated for the visitor. Here you will enjoy a classic Hermann guest house with a warm, relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. You are welcomed by resident host Dave Conner, who is pleased to offer suggestions for wine country touring, sightseeing, shopping, dining and entertainment.

In recent years, articles about Hermann have appeared in Southern Living, Country Living and St. Louis Magazine. The Reiff House is featured in AMERICAN HISTORIC INNS, as well as in BED & BREAKFAST AND COUNTRY INNS OF MISSOURI.

This German vernacular brick house was constructed on Market Street in 1871. Market Street, in the National Register Historic District, connected the Missouri River with ore shippers in St. James, MO, before the turn of the century. As Hermann grew, it became a bustling river port with the large Market House established at 4th and Market Streets. John Reiff purchased the townhouse at 306 Market in 1881 and converted it into a thriving farmers' hotel with saloon and dining room.

The building retains its original details, a distinctive stepped facade at the eaves, Flemish bond brickwork, wrought iron balcony, twelve-foot ceilings, refitted gas lamps, four-panel doors and heart pine floors. The furnishings complete the ensemble: Revival, American Primitive, 19th Century and Victorian, in cherry, walnut, oak and maple - - some crafted by local cabinetmakers.
